The goal was to establish a dialysis unit that was safe and comfortable, to reduce the time spent getting to and from dialysis sessions and thus, have a positive impact on the lives of dialysis patients in and around White River as well as tourists and visitors to the Lowveld.

While we were about it, it was an opportunity to offer not just Hemodialysis but Hemodiafiltration by investing in the Nipro Surdial X machines.  We are focused on improving patient outcomes and HDF provides significantly higher clearances of

beta-2 microglobulin and similar molecules. Studies have shown that clearing these larger molecules improves long term patient outcomes (Cheung et al.,2006)

The main benefit of operating an independent unit is that we can be more flexible and we are able to create a home from home environment.  Lerato, Porcious, Nomfundo and Nikki truly enjoy seeing their patients and White River Dialysis aims to make the lives of those on dialysis in and around White River easier by cutting out the time spent travelling as well as by starting morning sessions earlier.  Our unit is bright, cheerful and comfortable and we have wi-fi, DSTV and meals provided by Sip.
